The vision behind Kandari begins with Umapada Dutta, or as we lovingly called him, Dadu (Grandfather). Our Dadu believed education to be the most valuable source of inspiration and opportunity available in his community, resolving to spare no expense when it came to providing and saving for his children's education. After years of working tirelessly in the tea gardens of Bangladesh and making countless sacrifices for his family, our Dadu’s dreams for his family finally took hold: our father and his siblings became the first of their family and neighborhood to attend university, armed with both gratitude and determination to make the most of their newfound pathway towards achievement. 

Though our Dadu’s dreams of higher education for his children were realized, we recognize that poverty continues to limit the academic opportunities of aspiring students in Bangladesh today. Though these students have the mind and motivation to continue their educations, money remains the greatest obstacle towards greater academia and opportunity.

Inspired by our grandfather’s story, we created Kandari, a Bengali term meaning to guide, to help future generations of students seeking higher education in rural areas. Through our partnership with Jagatpur Ashram Orphanage in Chattogram, Bangladesh,  we hope to collaborate with motivated students and help them achieve their professional goals.  

1. To provide monetary assistance to students striving for higher education in impoverished communities

2. To promote the advancement of disadvantaged students in their academic endeavors through guidance on educational planning and economic literacy 

3. To collaborate with local community organizations in hopes of reducing the financial burden on underprivileged students
